Landmarks and hightlighting The cathedral of Barcelona The Gothic Cathedral of Barcelona, Catedral de Santa Eulàlia is situated on Plaza de la Seu. The Cathedral was built in 1298 until the mid 15th century and the façade dates from the 19th century. The cathedral is named after the co-patron saint of Barcelona Euliàlia who died in 304 to martyrdom.
Sagrada Familia The sagrada Familia is the masterpiece of the Spanish architecture Antoni Gaudí. The build of the cathedral started in 1900 and should be finished in the year 2026. The Sagrada Familia exists out of three facades which all represent a phase of the life of Jesus. A not yet build tower will be 170 meters high and will be surrounded by 4 smaller towers and will represent Christus and the apostles.
The first façade that was completed was the nativity façade and is build in a modern Catalonian style. The façade has three porches which standing for faith, hope and love. Also there are sculptures like pelicans and giraffes that were inspired by nature. The passion facade shows the suffering of Jesus. Above the portal there is a sculpture of Jesus on the cross. Also there is a square where the age of Jesus is when he died. The last façade of passion isn´t completed.
Casa Milà Casa Míla which is better known as La Pedrera is a building designed by the architect Gaudi. The building consists of natural stones and does not have any straight lines. . It´s possible to visit the attic and the roof of La Pedrera where you can have look at the work of Gaudí. The roof consists of sculptures and surrealistic chimneys and you will have a great view over the city centre.
Beaches Playa de la Barceloneta Playa de la Barceloneta is Barcelona´s most popular beach which is situated very close to the harbor. During the summer months the Barceloneta beach is situated in the neighborhood Barceloneta and is very crowded by tourists and locals also it´s a good place for some surfing. Near to the beach you can find a lot of little shops and restaurants. On the beach there is a statue which is a popular meeting point for most people.
Museums MACBA The Museu d´Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA) is the museum where you find many different Catalonian and foreign artworks, paintings and statues from several areas. The building of the museum is designed by the American architect Richard Meier and was opened in 1995. The museum is definitely worth a visit.

Picasso Museum The Picasso museum will give you a good impression to understand the younger years of Pablo Ruiz Picasso. The museum was opened in 1963 and you can have a look at more than 3 800 works of Picasso. Also there is an exhibition with the work other artists that have a link to Picasso.
Through the years the Picasso Museum has undergone several renovations and developments and it´s developing some new programs, activities and services for the public.
MNAC Museo Nacional d´Art de Catalunya (MNAC) in Barcelona is a museum with an Romanian art collection of many international artists. The collection exists out of many types of art from sculptures, photography, paintings and drawings which should reflect the Catalonian art from the roman times until the mid 20 th century.
Parks Ciutadella Park Parc de la Ciutadella is the biggest park of Barcelona and is worth visiting when you´re staying in Barcelona. The Ciutadella Park is very popular among the locals and it is the place to be in the summer for them to hide for the sun. The gardens and fountains in the Ciutadella Park are build with the help of Antoni Gaudi. Inside the park you will find a a little lake where you can have a small boat sail also the Zoo of Barcelona and the museum d´art modern. Also the fountain La Cascada is situated in the parc which contains snake tails and winged horses. The fountain in the Ciutadella Park is based on the famous Trevi fountain in Rome.
Parc Guell The most famous park in Barcelona is Park Guëll that is designed by Gaudí. The park is very colorful and has many excentric stone structures. Gaudí got an assignment from Eusebi Guëll to make a park where people could live and recreate in. The idea was to build about 60 houses in the park but it only contains 2 houses. In one of these houses Gaudí lived in from 1906 till 1926 but it´s not designed by Gaudi but by Fransesc Berenguer. At the entrance of the park are two buildings with unusual shapes. The parc is build on an undulating landscape because Gaudí wanted the park to stay in his usual shape. |
