How to use the public transport

If you have never been in Barcelona and you want to go to your apartment or move around in the city it´s a good idea to have a look at the different possibilities of transportation Barcelona offers you.

We compiled a brief overview to show how to come to Barcelona and how to get from the airport or train station to the city, how to travel inside the city or to go to your apartment.

Below you will find information about how to travel to Barcelona and how to use the public transport in the centre of Barcelona and how to come to your apartment with the public transport.

Airlines
The airport of Barcelona, El Prat de Llobregat and is situated only 12 kilometers away from the centre of Barcelona. For more information you can visit the website www.aena.es or contact them directly by phone 932 983 838 or fax 934 793 902.

There are different ways to go from the airport to the centre of Barcelona:
- The first option is the Areobús that will bring you in a half an hour to Plaça de Catalunya. The bus runs daily every 12-13 minutes from 06.00h. till 24.00h. and in the weekends and holidays from 06.30h. till 24.00h.
A ticket will cost you € 5.00 for a single ticket and a retour ticket valid for 9 days costs € 8.65.

- A train is leaving every 30 minutes from the airport and takes you to Sants Estacio in 17 minutes, to Plaça de Catalunya in 23 minutes and to Arc de Triomf in 26 minutes. The train runs from 6.13h. till 23.40h. every day of the week and a ticket costs € 3.00.

- When you take a taxi every trip that goes from the airport is charged with a meter and also there is an extra charge for each suitcase of € 0.85. You have to expect to pay about
€ 20.00 for a trip to Plaça Catalunya.

Train
You can also take the train to come to Barcelona. The Spanish railway network is run by RENFE, for more information and to reserve a seat you can visit their website www.renfe.es.Or contact them by phone, for national enquiries 902 240 202 or for international enquiries 934 901 112.

The Sants Estacio station where all the trains arrive and departure is a bit to far from the centre to go by feet is the best option to take the metro or a taxi. If you take the metro you can take the green or blue line to get there.

Metro
Barcelona´s metro network is one of the most reliable and fastest transport systems. Every metro line has a number and color so you can easy see which line you need to travel with.
On the website www.tmb.net you can find a full overview of the metronetwork. 

The Metro runs from Monday to Thursday, Sundays and Public Holidays from 05:00 till 24:00, and on Friday and days before holidays from 05:00 till 02:00. On Saturday runs the metro whole the night.


Bus
On the website
www.tmb.net you can also find out how the bus network is operating in Barcelona. You can use your metro ticket when you travel by bus. On the metro staion Placa Catalunya you will find a handout with all the information about the bus routes.
The buses run from 05:30 until about 22:30, and there is also a night bus service taking you from and to several key points in town from 22:30 till 05:00.

There is also the
Bus Túristic which is the official tourist bus of Barcelona and takes you to many major attractions of Barcelona. You can get on the bus on Placa Catalunya and you can get on and off as many times you want during the route. The price of a ticket will be € 22 .00 for an adult and € 14.00 for a child.

Taxi

At night when there is not much general traffic after 21.00 you will pay between € 4 and € 10 for a trip, depending on your destination.
